| Haven't quite figured this one out, but the card auto-disconnects if I have a LAN connection active on my laptop. Is there any mechanism to disable this? |

It would be useful to include your:
- OS
- PC Card being used
- software used (VZAccess, MCM, MCM AC580)
And some more details. Are you connected via BroadBandAccess and you plug in your ethernet and you lose BroadBandAccess? _________________ EVDO :: EVDO News :: EVDO Antennas :: Buy Verizon :: Buy Sprint :: EVDO Amplifier |

I'm running XP Professional. The wireless connections is via a Sierra Air580, and its immaterial if I connect via EvDO or 1xRT. The LAN connection is to a home LAN. It also seems immaterial if I have a default route on the XP machine or not. The Scenario is this:
Boot XP connected to LAN
LAN provides machine a 10.x space address (with or without def route - doesn't matter
Functional on local LAN
Connection Sierra card to Vz Wireless through either VzManager or AirCard watcher
Stay connected for approx 15 seconds
If I manually pull the ethernet plug, and reconnect via either wireless software the connection stays up... until I replug in the ethernet cable |

I am experiencing the same problem. The difference is that I am using ICS with my XP Pro. I share the connection when I am in the field. I connect another laptop to my LAN.
Any suggestions on how to resolve this?? |

I have forwarded the question to my friends at Sierra Wireless, I will report back after I get a response. _________________ EVDO :: EVDO News :: EVDO Antennas :: Buy Verizon :: Buy Sprint :: EVDO Amplifier |

I received an answer from Sierra Wireless:
Please note that XP has media sensing. This basically checks for the fastest network connection (either LAN or wireless) and automatically uses the fastest connection.
So, the problem is not with your EVDO AirCard, but rather XP is automatically using the fastest TCP/IP connection. To disable this XP feature:

| while I can see how XP would use the default LAN connection, it doesn't make sense to me at this point why VZW would drop the wireless connection. It happens to me all the time if I keep a lan connection active as well. Whats sad is I'm having to "disable" my lan connection before I connect via VZW otherwise VZW will disconnect about 10 seconds later. |

| Strange, I have about the same setup and I checked and verified that I do not have media sensing disabled (the reg key/val is not present) and I have not experienced this behavior. Actually download files via EV-DO from laptop to wifi-network mounted drive on desktop. |
