Anyone have additional luck with getting this working with Mac OS X?
I should be getting the 7130e sometime in the next week or so, and I will be able to try as well. _________________ EVDO :: EVDO News :: EVDO Antennas :: Buy Verizon :: Buy Sprint :: EVDO Amplifier |

I read this thread and I am a bit confused as to whether it works or not.
Question: Does the Blackberry 7130e work with a Windows XP computer via bluetooth?
Does it work via USB for Windows XP?
Since Verizon has posted that they are releasing the Treo 700W, they have a link on the main page of their website so I imagine it will be out soon, so I wonder if the 700W will be able to work via bluetooth and usb.???
Also, the 7130e says it doesn't support OBEX (tethering) on the verizon wireless website so is this another hack like what is done with the Moto e815?
Is this something that works well or is this a pain, i.e. reconnecting all the time or having to go through a whole procedure to connect and stay connected. I've had a pc card for a year and the phone isn't too much of a hassle after the setup. |

7130e doesn't support OBEX or DUN on bluetooth, so you can't use it as a bluetooth modem or to download files/ringtones/pics/etc. to it using BT. this is a verizon thing, not a bb thing. bb can support this inherently. this is true on verizon using it for windows or mac machines.
it does work with usb on winxp and macs (w/pocketmac for bb). syncs with your contacts, and on windows works as a modem no problem.
btw, obex does not equate to tethering. obex is object exchange and is the protocol used to transfer files to the device over the bluetooth protocol. i don't think anyone has hacked the 7130e yet to enable obex...at least i haven't found anything out there. |

I have tried the "Verizon 1xEVDO Modem Script" provided with the KPC650 card Mac software. No luck... I am wondering if smithmicro's QuickLink Mobile for Mac OSX would have any other results. |

I successfully connected to my Blackberry using Pocketmac Blackberry
$30 bucks, but I thinks its worth it.
It installs the necessary USB drivers and you use iSync to sync things up.

Michael,
Just wondering if you have received your 7130e and if you have made any progress? Probably still playing with all your new gadgets... |

Unfortunately, I decided not to get the 7130e.
Without Mac OS X drivers, there is no way this is going to work. Verizon is not supporting tethering via BlueTooth, so, it doesn't look like this will work until someone create Mac OS X drivers _________________ EVDO :: EVDO News :: EVDO Antennas :: Buy Verizon :: Buy Sprint :: EVDO Amplifier |

Darn...
Too bad I cannot code myself out of a wet paper bag. On another side note, I am ticked that Verizon has again crippled obex on another bluetooth device, because I cannot use it to get traffic updates for my TomTom.
Wish I had know that before, because I would have picked the e815, or sprint. |

Has anyone made on progress on this front?
I have a Blackberry 7250 that works great on a Win machine, but I'd love to use it with my PowerBook.
Also, can anyone confirm or deny that this would work under Virtual PC? I tried it with v6, but it didn't find the blackberry. I woulnd't bother upgrading if this won't work with it.
Thanks for any help |

Indeed, there is no solution for Apple Mac's at this point. However, I spoke to someone at Pocketmac for Blackberry (who makes the syncing software for Mac's), and they will be coming out with an interface which will allow modem functionality. Here is their reply to my inquiry:

The BlackBerry 7130e device can be used a tethered modem -- this access can only be performed on a Windows computer. We do not have modem drivers that allow connection for BlackBerry devices as a modem. We are working on these features though for a future release.
PocketMac for BlackBerry will currently provide synchronization with: Contacts, Calendar, Task and Notes. Thank you very much and have a great day!

Information about their program can be found at http://www.pocketmac.net/products/pmblackberry/
I am not connected with them in any way.
Enjoy! |

Interesting... I had tried them a little while ago too as they seemed to be the best bet. I got a slightly different reply:
| Quote: | Thank you for the input! I know a few of our users are looking for this. I can tell you we do not have immediate plans for such a feature.
Hope this helps

Michael,
Saw the list of supported Tethered Phones on the early KR1 review and noticed it didn't support the 7130e (starting to think this phone is about as useless as a paperweight for data transfer).
Do you know if a miracle might have happened and the driver might have found its way into the KR1 for it's initial release? |
