This thread will discuss the upcoming Audiovox <b>XV6700</b>, which looks like it will be released soon by Verizon.
We will post additional information and pictures on the XV6700 when available.
For those that do not know, the XV6700 is by Audiovox and is the SAME unit that Sprint calls the PPC-6700.

There have been some pictures of the XV6700 floating around (see below). We have a Sprint PPC6700 (see PPC6700 Review ) and love it. On the cable of our PPC6700, it clearly tells us that Verizon's XV6700 will use the same cable.
It also looks like the Verizon XV6700 will have a black top vs. Sprints PPC6700 which has a silver top.

Yes it does, but those pics are extremely old. I think they first surfaced at least a month ago.
The talk now is that Verizon may be planning a major launch of the XV6700, 700w, and the Moto Q at CES '06 which begins in 16 days. Handango apparently sent developers a mass e-mail notifying them of an early deadline due to an extremely early 2006 Verizon release of a WM 5.0 device. CES begins 1/5, but the question remains; will they release them all simultaneously or stagger the releases? |

Too bad that tethered modem use wasn't announced with this PPC. I would have guessed that the 7130e was the first of many devices to support tethering for Verizon - doesn't seem so. Looks like Sprint is going to win in this area!

I've also included a file which enables the following four other features:

3. enable GPS phone manager
4. WIFI and cellular on at the same time
Finally, a request: I'm looking for a way to setup my phone to not take voice calls when in a data call initiated via either usb or bluetoth. or, a way to set up this preference in general. Any advice?

| Just bought myself a 6700 today and i was able to connect through my mac by using the sprint pcs vision modem script, yes i know a little weird im going to try to learn more... once i do ill post! |

I'm left handed and I would like my xv6700 to come up in left handed landscape mode when it is turned on. I have gone to Settings/System/Screen and selected Landscape left handed and it changes to that mode, but the next time it is turned on it reverts to portrait.
Is there something I need to do to save the settings or something I need to change in order to prevent startup from resetting the screen mode? Or perhaps something in a theme that sets the default display mode.

A recent post got me thinking about my Verizon XV6700 CDMA EVDO PDA-phone.
I've been checking out the XV6700 for a number of months now. The following is a list of good and the bad points (which generally relates to out-of-the-box initial usage experience from a lay-user's perspective). I have hunted down fixes to some issues or replaced apps when the native apps didn't work, but have to wonder how far most people would go to get everything working.
Things I like:
The device from a hardware standpoint is really pretty good. The XV6700's joystick placement and rubberized tip both are positives for right-handed users (either when the QWERTY is slid-out or collapsed). The QWERTY is decently large, so I can thumb-type with the meaty part of my thumbs rather than the tips. The raised key indicators on the 'F' and 'J' buttons (for typing orientation) aren't great. Still, generally speaking, individual buttons like those on the Sidekick (1st one or Color) or Treo allow for better tactile response and thumb typing speed for me.
Data speed is fast in EVDO areas and still very decent in 1xRTT areas.
Out-of-the-box e-mail works as does secure e-mail (SSL, ports 993/995/465) though there are issues with message handling (IMAP sent e-mail doesn't show up either on the device in the 'Sent' box/folder or globally, i.e.. showing up in other e-mail clients on other platforms. This hints at a 'path' issue, yet *where* is the ability to edit path in the PPC Mobile 5 e-mail client?).
Out-of-the-box Internet browsing works and is generally usable, though I would not call it intuitive or slick.
Keyboard and option key/joystick usage and navigation is useful (better for right-handed users).
--Better IMHO than a Treo650 (GSM), but not nearly as useful/immediately intuitive as a T-Mo/Danger Sidekick's keyboard/navigation (bummer that such a useful device interface starts to immediately suffer due the network it is on [T-Mobile GPRS - Danger servers] or due to the proprietary code limitations [not to mention CPU/RAM hardware limitations]).
Decent availability of 3rd-party apps (as long as old ones play nice with PPC Mobile 5 or have been updated).
Fairly wide and increasing adoption, which helps with application availability/driver availability and knowledge base (info resources).
Things I don't like:
The 'Default-Deny' that is Verizon hardware configuration AND their ToS. Bluetooth locked or crippled. Wi-Fi locked or limited. Tethering dicey, unsupported or initially frowned-upon by their ToS (though the tethering issues/options are admittedly changing... SLOWLY).
FUD that's related to running Microsoft code.
Windows Active Sync broken out-of-the-box (requires an update on your main host machine before you can do a successful sync).
Mac OS X syncing not quite there yet. Mark Space is STILL developing The Missing Sync for PPC Windows Mobile 5 (yes, there *is* an alpha version available only if you have the previous Missing Sync PPC version... or pay for that previous version and download it).
PPTP VPN username and password input is a total joke. If a user's password is realistically long and complex, than entering it with the available methods is prone to failure. You cannot copy paste from a text file or e-mail (both which have security ramifications, of course). Password input either by the QWERTY keyboard or touch-screen keyboard is always obscured (shows up as asterisks as every character is entered). Even Nokia/Symbian figured out how to make that better: show the character momentarily after it is first input, then obscure it). The necessity of using either the function key or secondary character fields for the touch-screen keyboard are really a giant hassle, which invites continued bogus character entry. Net result: password/key length gets simplified and/or shortened which results in less security! Aw yes, the genius of Microsoft's security strategy and interface hard at work. 
WPA-PSK encryption strings (>25 suitably complex random characters on up) are as painful to enter as complex PPTP VPN passwords.
The bluetooth functionality is a little iffy (such as getting a call to transfer to a bluetooth headset [Plantronics Voyager 510] after a call has been established). This works on my other phones.
