Why did you go with the XV6600 rather than waiting for the i730?

I may get an i730 for comparison.

I really needed something portable that offered a better web browsing experience than a T-Mobile SideKick II. Th XV6600 offers that. I downloaded NetFront as my browser and it really is fast.

At first, I thought the same thing about the keyboard, but once you start using it, you can get pretty fast with it the more you use it.

Skype works on it.

The built-in messenger (email/sms) is very nice.

I am looking at different AIM compatible apps.

I haven't really tried out the phone yet.

I was hoping the battery life would be better. I am fine tuning it to get more out of the battery. There are few companies that offer larger batter replacements too.

I think a HUGE advantage for carrying one, is the ability to use the PocketPC as a modem to your laptop (e.g. laptop doesn't have a PC Slot).

I usually test things with Windows & Mac. There is a program that syncs with Mac OS X (Outlook on PC, is of course included), and it even does it over bluetooth.

More later...

Hi,

I have Exchange server Activesync refresh set at 5 minute intervals on my (new) XV6600 with camera. However, I've now confirmed that the device does not receive regular phone calls while downloading emails etc. I dont even get a missed call notification. Has anyone else experienced this ? Is there a known solution?

I am in the SF bay area, I sometimes see the EV icon and sometimes 1x.

I just did a test.

I sent a 5mb MP3 from the XV6600, While sending, I called the XV6600. I did get a message on my screen about the incoming call and I was able to answer it while the mail was being sent via the Messaging app.

I ordered an XV6600 with camera yesterday. Should get tomorrow. I was in a Verizon store for another reason and started playing with one. I had intended to wait to see the Samsung before making a decision. However, after doing a bit of web surfing with the XV6600 I realized I would not be happy with the smaller Samsung screen (yes I know the resolution is the same). What I really want is something with a large screen and VGA like on my Dell Axim but that really doesn't exist at this time. I am looking for the XV6600 to replace my current phone, Blackberry and Axim.

Anyone know where is a good place to get a couple of the extended batterieis?

Lion Battery recently released their v3 extended batteries for the XV6600. I've seen a number of good reviews and plan to pick one up from them.

Anyone actually buy these? It is hard to tell if the how much the batteries stuck out from the back. If anyone has these batteries and can take a picture, I can post the pictures here for all to see.

I was thinking of getting one to test. I have heard that they work, but I want to make sure. If anyone has one that they have personally used, please post here.

Thanks!

MIchael

I bought the Lion 2400 battery. It is the same width all the length of it as the regular battery is at the top.

That is there isn't the dip. I have the Krusell case with the clear cover and it fits fine.

I elected not to get the very thick battery. FWIW, I can go all day getting email every 15 minutes with the 2400 battery and talked some on the phone as well.

As an update-- I've had the phone almost 2 weeks and it is working great. I love the large screen and I happy I got it instead of waiting on the Samsung.

Finding a good mail program to get mail from multiple accounts was a little of a challenge and I ended up with Profimail.

I needed the larger screen as well and with the larger battery, I am completely happy.

I couldn't find a manual to download for Profimail, can you tell me if there is any Today Plugins? I really enjoy seeing the unread messages from my Today Screen.

Thanks!

The manual on profimail is on the website for the game. Just search. I don't recall seeing that feature but it could be there, don't know. Also there is a forum there where you can ask questions. However, I think there are some utilities out there that let you do that.

I was wondering myself whether to wait for the Samsung or to pick up the Audiovox now. According to you guys the Samsung screen seems to be a bit smaller ... are there are other major differences between the two devices? Is the battery life of the Samsung expected to be better?

Thanks,
Tom
